Installing and Configuring the Java Plug-in for Java Applets ~~ For Mac OS 9

Confirm the Java Applet Settings

Verify that you have the proper Java Applet Settings.

Note: For the requirements and configurations for the OS and the Web browser, please see the section on ActiveAssets Client System and Configuration.

How to verify the settings:

Verifying the Java Plug-in settings happens in the Web Browser.

•  For OS X:

1. Verify that you have the latest Web Browser (Safari). If you have the latest version of Safari, you will not need to install the plug-in.

2. Make sure your OS version is 10.3.9 or later.  Also make sure your web browser is the latest version.   Verify the installation of  JRE 1.4.2 or later when you are using 10.3.9 or later.

•  For OS 9:

1. Open Preferences from the Edit menu of Internet Explorer.

2. Select Java from the “Web Browser” section.

3. Confirm that the “Enable Java (Apple MRJ)” checkbox is checked.

1. When the checkbox is already selected: This is the correct setting. There is no need to install the Java Plugin (MRJ). => Proceed to “Confirm the version of the Java Plug-in (MRJ)”

2. When the checkbox is not checked. Check this box, and click OK, to finish.

3. When clicking the checkbox, and a warning message appears below, this means the Java Plugin (MRJ) is not installed. Please proceed to the section “Manually Installing the Java Plug-in” below.

4. You can confirm the version of the plug-in by following the method below:

5. Browse to: /System Folder/Extensions/MRJ Libraries. Inside, you will see “MRJLib. Select it, and choose “Get Info” from the File Menu.

6. Browse to: /Applications/Apple Extras/Mac OS Runtime For Java. Make sure that inside this folder is a file called “About MRJ 2.2.5”.

Verifying the Java Applet electronic certificate (Mac OS X)

The following warning message dialog illustrates the Security Certificate acceptance screen. This appears when performing Multiple Uploads or Downloads.

• Click Yes, and the Multiple Upload Apple will load.

Manually installing the Java Plug-in (OS 9)

1. Please first log out of ActiveAssets prior to downloading the Plug-in.

2. Download the Java Plug-in for OS 9 from Apple. Go to their Java Plug-in page, and begin the installation process.

3. The Download page will open.

4. Click the blue Download button that appears in the middle of the page.

5. When the download completes, an MRJ Installer Disk Image will appear on your desktop (or wherever your download location is set to. Open this image, and double click on the Installer to begin the installation.

Note: Before beginning the installation process, please close all other applications.

6. The Software License Agreement screen will come up. Click Agree to continue.

7. A dialog asking you to choose your installation volume will come up. Browse to the volume that has the currently running OS 9 system, and then click the Install button.

8. A dialog asking you to make sure that there are no other programs running will appear. Quit all other applications, and then click the Continue button.

9.  After the installation process has completed, a confirmation dialog will appear. Click Quit to finish the installation.

10. After the installation has finished, use one of the following methods to confirm the installation, and Java Plug-in version.

11. Browse to: /System Folder/Extensions/MRJ Libraries. Inside, you will see “MRJLib. Select it, and choose “Get Info” from the File Menu.

12. Browse to: /Applications/Apple Extras/Mac OS Runtime For Java. Make sure that inside this folder is a file called “About MRJ 2.2.5”.
